Play Therapy for Social Workers

PLAY THERAPY FOR SOCIAL WORKERS IN CHILD AND YOUTH CENTRES –
A SKILL IN INTERVENTION

DAY 1:

Orientation in terms of the Gestalt Philosophy. Gestalt concepts, forms of play, mediums, overview of the Schoeman work model.

Gestalt Video: Discussion of dramatized play and role play.

DAY 2:

Nightmares, fantasy and day dreams. Resistance against authority and structure. Self-esteem and provenance interpretation. Aggressive behaviour.

Gestalt Intervention: Biblio play, creative play, dramatized play and the dream technique, socio-drama, letters, empty-chair technique, roadmap, rose bush technique and life book.

DAY 3:

Lack of future vision. Agression towards homework (school projects), tasks in the home and self-efficacy.

Gestalt Intervention: Creative play in the 14 steps of Oaklander, rose bush technique and the monster technique.

DAY 4:

Theft, lies, drugs, alcohol and bullying.

Gestalt Intervention : Creative and dramatized play. The monster technique, roadmap and empty chair.

Evaluation in the form of a crossword puzzle.

  • Written feedback. Both evaluations will be handled inside biblio play by completing crossword puzzle and incomplete sentences
  • 20 CPD Credits

The cost is R1800 per person. Every course attendee receives binded handouts a CD with the empty chair technique and a certificate.
